Britain’s Manliest Cyclist – Now with added Manliness
Richard Carus, voted Britain’s Manliest Cyclist in a national poll, is now looking even more manly with his new Bluebeards Revenge jersey.
Richard, social media expert at Chalk and Ward Advertising, won the ‘Britain’s Manliest Cyclist’ crown back in August 2011, beating of a number of other rugged cyclists from across the UK. The manly man will now be the face of The Bluebeards Revenge in the cycling world and star in an infamous ‘Train Hard, Shave Easy’ commercial. The dedicated cyclist is also putting his body on the line over the next year, taking part in cyclosportives and running the Plymouth 10k run. In doing this we only thought it fair that he needed a Bluebeards Jersey to add to his undoubted manliness.
As ‘Britain’s Manliest Cyclist’, Richard is taking part in the 2012 London to Paris bike ride from April 18th to the 22nd in aid of Rowcroft Hospice. The London to Paris charity cycle is a great experience and the ultimate challenge. Cycling over 5 days, Richard will cover almost 500 Kilometres. A challenge like this is not only about the distance covered but also about group effort, friendship and most importantly spirit.
“In May next year I will be taking on the challenge of cycling from London to Paris. I am embarking on this manly challenge for two reasons, first and foremost I will be raising money for Rowcroft Hospice, a place that is very dear to my heart and thousands of others but secondly, and of national importance, I will taking my manliness over the channel to remind the French that just because they got lucky and reached the final of the Rugby World Cup they still cannot compete on the manliness front. This is, I believe, a critical mission that is the very essence of being ‘Britain’s Manliest Cyclist’ and one that I deem to be my duty.
I ask that the whole of Britain supports me in my quest to put the French firmly back in their place by donating to my campaign fund. I thank you.”

Richard Carus named Britain’s Manliest Cyclist
Ladies…meet Richard Carus, Britain’s Manliest Cyclist
Richard Carus, Chalk & Ward Hoead of Social Media, has been crowned ‘Britain’s Manliest Cyclist’, narrowly beating four rivals in the public vote.
The social media guru polled more than 10,000 votes to win the nationwide competition and become the face of The Bluebeards Revenge and £500 for a charity or club of his choice.
In June 2011, The Bluebeards Revenge launched the hunt to find ‘Britain’s Manliest Cyclist’ through cycling magazines, websites and the prestigious Dartmoor Classic Cyclosportive.
Hundreds applied but after much deliberation five ruggedly handsome cyclists were shortlisted for ‘Britain’s Manliest Cyclist’. And it was Richard, from Newton Abbot in Devon, who came out on top of the masculine pile.
Gary Clements, Josh Bullock, Jason Richardson and Simon Grose were the other four finalists.
Nick Gibbens, spokesperson for The Bluebeards Revenge, said: “The Bluebeards Revenge is the most masculine shaving cream on the market for men with heavy stubble, with ingredients such as Decelerine which actively reduces stubble, its perfect for manly cyclists who like to shave their legs.
“These five rugged chaps were all worthy winners, but it was Richard who secured the most public votes.
“We would like to thank all five guys for their enthusiasm, hard work, commitment and manliness. They have all been a pleasure to work with and will always be considered part of the Bluebeards family.”
A delighted Richard said: “I can’t believe I won the competition. To be named the manliest cyclist in the UK is a massive honour. I would like to thank everyone who voted for me.”
Richard, who is 38, took his campaign to become ‘Britain’s Manliest Cyclist’ through his well-established social media contacts via Facebook and Twitter as well as going on local radio and getting numerous mentions in local and regional newspapers.
He will now become The Bluebeards Revenge face of cycling, along with this he will get £500 to donate to a cycling club or charity of his choice and a year’s supply of The Bluebeards Revenge shaving products.
“I will be donating the prize money to the Rowcroft Hospice in Torquay, which is an excellent and rewarding charity,” said Richard.
The Bluebeards Revenge is available to buy from Menkind stores nationwide, Jacks of London, Amazon.co.uk, Lookmantastic and The Shaving Shack.

The Bluebeards Revenge’s quest for ‘Manliest Cyclist’ heats up
Leading men’s grooming brand The Bluebeards Revenge has seen an exceptional response in their quest to find ‘Britain’s Manliest Cyclist’.
Last week the final shortlist of five was announced and the ‘Manly Cyclists’ are being put to a manly vote to uncover the rightful winner.
The five cyclists have been drumming up public votes on The Bluebeards Revenge website to great success – Vote here. The entrants have been using different methods to accumulate votes. Some have been using social media, from Tweeting to Facebook likes. Publicity stunts like shaving in manly places such as on the top of mountains and rapids have also made it into the local press and one entrant even went on radio to drum up support for his campaign.
PR Manager Justin Bullock said: “We have received a great deal of response to the competition, there is no clear favourite at the moment but were happy to see the public is getting behind the manly cyclists and support them to win the prize.”
The winner will not only scoop the prestigious title of ‘Britain’s Manliest Cyclist’ but will also become the face of The Bluebeards Revenge where they would get the opportunity to star in a TV commercial, receive a Bluebeards Revenge racing jersey, a year’s supply of The Bluebeards Revenge shaving products and have £500 donated to their Club or a charity of their choice.
The Bluebeards Revenge launched its quest to find ‘Britain’s Manliest Cyclist’ online and at the Dartmoor Classic cyclosportive event in June. While there, the team carried out a sponsored leg shave and proceeds went to local charity Shelter Box. The Shelter Box team is currently helping with the East Africa drought.
Bluebeards Revenge Draws Up ‘Britain’s Manliest Cyclist’ Shortlist
Leading men’s grooming brand The Bluebeards Revenge’s quest to crown ‘Britain’s Manliest Cyclist’ has heated up.
In June 2011, The Bluebeards Revenge team attended the Dartmoor Classic Cycling Sportive in Kingsteignton, Devon to find individuals that displayed all the characteristics of a die hard ‘Bluebeard’, the term the firm uses to describe a “Real Man”.
Manly men from all over the UK vied for the illustrious title and the company has now shortlisted five worthy candidates for the prize.
The five shortlisted candidates are Simon Grose (Camborne, Cornwall), Richard Carus (Newton Abbott, Devon), Jason Richardson (Halifax, West Yorkshire), Joshua Bullock and Gary Clements, both from Tavistock, Devon. Entrants were picked not only on their cycling achievements, but also on what made them a ‘Real Man’.
“I am as manly as a male man in Manton on National Man Day. I am blessed with hirsute chops for which I am very proud. I am honoured to ride for Rowcroft – a hospice providing dignity and support. Cycling makes me happy especially when my face is as smooth as a babies bum!” said Richard Carus.
But Jason Richardson, from the popular mountain bike team Columbia Bikefood, explained why he should win the coveted title of Britain’s Manliest Cyclist. “You don’t get much more manly then the Columbia Bike Team or myself. If I’m not shaving, I’m on the bike riding through mountains, forest and suburbia. The team takes part in many 24 and 12 hour events just to show of our masculinity,” he said.
Justin Bullock, the brand’s marketing manager, added: “The Bluebeards Revenge is all about a really great shave with a scientifically proven, stubble-reducing ingredient – just perfect for competitive cyclists looking for that extra edge.
“Our brand also stands for the less than conventional approach to life, cocking a snoot at the nanny state and the madness that is the balls ache of endless red tape and over the top health and safety clap trap.”
The five shortlisted applicants will now go forward to a public vote, with the cyclist with the most votes winning the national competition.
To vote for your favourite cyclist, visit www.bluebeards-revenge.co.uk/manliest-cyclist. The voting period will close on August 15.
