The results are in, the votes have been counted, and we can finally announce the regional winners of this year’s Britain’s Best Wet Shave competition, in association with the British Barbers’ Association.
We can now reveal the lucky eleven winners, hailing from across England, Scotland and Wales. The talented barbers were judged on a number of strict criteria, with skills in preparation, razor technique, after-shave routine and health and safety all being put to the test. The general efficiency of each competitor was also taken into consideration, giving them plenty of opportunities to impress.
The top eight regional winning barbers will now go through to the national final at Barber Connect 2014, to be held at the prestigious Celtic Manor hotel, near Newport, on May 25. The competitors will face a gruelling “speed shaving” tournament, to take place inside a boxing ring, giving them a limited amount of time to show the judges what they are made of.
Hundreds of barbers flocked to this year’s preliminary heats, with regional winners beating off cut-throat competition from a large number of talented entrants in order to claim their places in the final round. Events took place across the country, with regional finals held in Cardiff, Sheffield and Poole.
With the amazing standard of this year’s competitors, narrowing them down to the cream of the crop has been no easy task, and only serves to prove that Britain really is home to the best barbers in the world. The event has been a real celebration of the most creative and innovative of British wet shaving barbering, and with the art enjoying a renaissance in recent years; it has been a fantastic opportunity to inspire the new generation of British barbers.
Those who have made it through to the final round are truly deserving, but equally it has been a shame to see some promising entrants fall at the last hurdle. We would like to say a huge thank you to all of those who entered the competition this year, helping to make it a roaring success once again.
For the final event, the top eight barbers will need to bring along their own models to showcase their skills, each with around 2-3 days of beard growth. They are also invited to attend Hair UK at the Birmingham NEC in May for the quarter final draw, which will feature an FA Cup style draw.
